Bideford Target Shooting Club activelyengages in many different competitions and leagues throughout the year. Club members compete as individual marksmen or as part of a club team. We have club members representing themselves the County and Great Britain in competitive shooting.
HOW DOES IT ALL WORK ?
One of the main types of competitive target shooting within the club is shooting in National Leagues, however you will not be expected to travel all round the country to compete against other marksmen at their ranges. All of your national competition shooting will take place at Bideford Target Shooting Club Ranges at Melbury. Because we only shoot at paper targets for score, once shot, your league competition cards are posted to an officially recognised, impartial and experienced scorer for scoring & adjudication. Once the scoring process is completed the scores in each round are published culminating in an overall winner at the end of a season. Membership of Bideford Target Shooting Club entitles you to your entry in The National Leagues but you will need to become a member of the sports governing body, The National Small Bore Rifle Association ( N.S.R.A.) to participate in these leagues.
These leagues are operated in the same way as the National Leagues. You may eventually be selected to shoot for the county. Bideford Target Shooting Club regularly fields a good number of marksmen for the County squad. The county leagues are run for Devon by our County organisation. The Devon County Small bore Rifle Association. ( D.C.S.R.A. )
BISLEY & SCOTLAND
The highlight of many marksman's calendar is the National Small Bore Rifle Associations ( N.S.R.A. ) national open meeting meeting which is held at Bisley in Surrey. This event is held over a the course of a few days and is attended by shooting enthusiasts from clubs across Great Britain. Their are competitions for all ages, genders and abilities. From the complete novice to international standard marksmen. It goes without saying that some Bideford Target Shooting Club members attend every year. Although much further away some Bideford members do also attend the Scottish equivalent of the N.S.R.A. Meeting.
DEVON ' V ' CORNWALL
County and Club pride are at steak here. Every year the clubs across both counties compete in a .22 prone shooting competition shooting at 25 yards. The winning club from each county to then represent their respective County to win The Kynoch Shield in the final shoot. The final is always held in the county of the current holder of the shield but not at the clubs home range.
The competition is not about which team can score the highest total through hitting the bullseye the most though, if only it were that simple! Each marksman must nominate a score he or she predicts will be achieved i.e 94 /100. This is then the score that the marksman must achieve for the perfect score. The marksman must now deliberately miss the bullseye to try and drop points, in this example, the six points predicted. Not as simple as it sounds. Bideford Target Shooting Clubs record in the past few years.

OPEN MEETINGS AT OTHER CLUB RANGES
Throughout the year other clubs across the country hold their own competitions that are shot at their home ranges. These meetings are contested over just one day traditionally a Sunday. It's not practical for Bideford Target Shooting Club members to travel any great distance but we do travel to other Devon clubs, Cornwall clubs and Somerset clubs often hiring a self drive mini bus as our transport. These are great days out enjoying the sport and each others company as well as getting to meet shooters from many other clubs that attend the meeting. A day shooting away is always followed by a good meal on our way back to Bideford. Bideford Target Shooting Club hosts two such meetings each year which are well attended by other clubs. Some open meetings are held over the span of a weekend or sometimes two weekends traditionally County open meetings. This gives marksmen a greater opportunity to enter the county championships and of course Bideford Target Shooting Club likes to field as many shooters as possible in the Devon County Championship.
NATIONAL COMPETITIONS ORGANISED BY CLUBS OR ORGANISATIONS.
Every year across both the winter and summer shooting seasons clubs and organisations from across the country organise their own special leagues that you can elect to shoot in. Bideford Target Shooting Club also organises such a league that is contested during the summer season of shooting we call it " The ASPS ". Competitions range across all the disciplines that we shoot at Melbury so their is never a lack of a competition to take part in.
BIDEFORD TARGET SHOOTING CLUB COMPETITIONS.
Just like all sporting clubs Bideford Target Shooting Club has its very own club competitions. Club competitions are held during both the winter and summer seasons and are open to all club members across all the disciplines we practice. Air guns compete against .22 rifles, prone shooters against prone shooters, bench rest against bench rest, it all gets very competitive but always good fun and good humoured. Take a look at the Trophy Cabinet page that can be found at the bottom of the drop down menu on the archive page to see the number and types of trophies available to win within the club.
HOW TO FOLLOW YOUR PROGRESS IN THE LEAGUES.
Bideford Target Shooting Club appoints team captains for each discipline. The team captains will collect all the scores in the many different leagues and post the results as they become available on the club notice board.....We have a large notice board ! As each league or competition progresses you can follow the ups and downs of your personal performance, rivals performances, your team & other team performances.
HOW MUCH DOES IT ALL COST ?
The cost of entry into the N.S.R.A. National league is met by the club through your club membership fee.
