We had a thoroughly enjoyable day on Sunday 10th, with all disciplines shooting together at Melbury for the trophies, and there was some excellent shooting.
The Coombsie Decanter, for the 10m airgun shoot, was narrowly won by Mark Pomeroy by just 4 points from Alex Raymont, ahead of Jake Underwood and Oliver Street.
The New Road Garage Shield, for bench rest, was well contested and the result in doubt until the last card, when Jon Morris shot a beautiful “ton” to take the trophy from Sam Bernard by two points, with Neil Prideaux and Paul Davies just a further point behind. Earlier in the knock-out event, Paul had also shot a “ton”, and Steve Hutchins put up the best airgun score in this event.
The Thomson Trophy, for prone rifle, was also a close affair; Keith Murkin led the field on the first detail, but was gradually overtaken in later rounds. Several cards had to be re-gauged to split ties, and finally there was a shoot-out between Gerald Macarty and Pete Thomson who tied on 98 in the last round. In the re-shoot, Pete just pipped Gerald by one point, to take the trophy for the first time since he had presented it in 2009 !
The weather was fine, the winds were fairly light, and the company was excellent ! Thank you all for taking part (and to Stuart for scoring all the cards) and making it a good day for us all.
